Lab-grown diamonds, explained
A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond. It is made of pure carbon arranged in the same crystal structure as a diamond formed in the earth, so it has the same hardness, brilliance and fire. Only specialised laboratory equipment can tell the two apart.
How they are grown
Diamonds are grown either by High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT), which recreates the conditions deep in the earth, or by Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD), where carbon is deposited layer by layer onto a diamond seed. Both processes produce genuine diamonds in weeks rather than millions of years.
Why choose lab-grown
- Identical beauty and durability to mined diamonds
- Traceable origin, no mining involved
- Larger, finer stones for the same budget
